The NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell have suspended Saints coach Sean Payton for one year without pay. Former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams suspended indefinitely, Saints GM Mickey Loomis suspended for first eight games, and Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt is suspended for six games. The Saints were also fined $500,000S, plus the forfeit of two future second round picks.
The punishment handed down on the Saints is unprecedented. Commissioner Goodell has set an example that a bounty system has no place in the NFL.
